Visiting Three Star Mound(s) — Sanxingdui
During a recent outreach trip to Chengdu, I had the fortune of visiting the Sanxingdui Museum — home to the astonishing artifacts unearthed from the Three Star Mound site.
It was truly an eye-opening experience. The sheer number of beautiful and sophisticated artifacts on display speaks volumes about the impressive skills of people living in the Shu region of China around three thousand years ago. From towering bronze statues to intricate gold masks, the craftsmanship on display challenges many assumptions about ancient Chinese civilization.
If you ever find yourself in Chengdu, this museum is absolutely worth a visit. It offers a rare glimpse into a world that was, until recently, almost entirely unknown to modern scholarship.
